The XAVIS XSCAN 9000 battery X-ray inspection family covers several inspection tasks within cell production. Prismatic can-gap checks, jelly-roll alignment inspection, foreign-material inspection and a CT application have different equipment arrangements and should be specified separately.
The 2D prismatic configuration performs eight-point can-gap inspection. XAVIS publishes a rating of 10–18 cells per minute for this configuration. The stacking and winding jelly-roll configuration checks electrode-pole alignment, with a published rating of 10–22 cells per minute.
These supplier ratings relate to the stated configurations. The required views, cell geometry and production conditions need to be considered when determining a suitable inspection cycle.
The FP configuration is intended for X-ray inspection of internal electrode fragments and metallic foreign material after cell assembly. The CT application checks electrode alignment using a rotating optical system and simultaneous loading of two or more cells.
The CT arrangement is described here by its application. Its exact model designation and final specification require confirmation before selection.
Identify the production stage, cell format and defect or measurement to be inspected. Cell drawings, representative samples or images, acceptance criteria and the required line rate help distinguish an alignment application from a foreign-material or can-gap inspection requirement.
